Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is making notable progress in river rejuvenation and water conservation.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 8 (HBTV): Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is making notable progress in river rejuvenation and water conservation. The State Mission for Clean Ganga is working to revive smaller rivers while creating substantial employment in rural areas.

This initiative is contributing to a transformative phase of development in villages across the state.

So far, nearly one crore man-days of work have been generated through river revival projects, offering livelihood opportunities to thousands of rural workers. These efforts have also advanced large-scale water conservation, strengthening both economic and ecological resilience in rural regions.

According to Prabhash Kumar, Project Director of the State Mission for Clean Ganga, efforts are underway to rejuvenate at least one river in each district, in line with the Chief Minister’s vision. The projects are being implemented at the divisional level under the supervision of Divisional Commissioners, in collaboration with District Ganga Committees and departments including MGNREGA, Irrigation, and Minor Irrigation, to ensure active local participation.

To date, around 2,000 water conservation projects have been completed under the mission. These include pond excavation, deepening of water bodies, drain cleaning, and the construction of water retention structures—all aimed at improving water availability and promoting rural sustainability.

In addition, large-scale plantation drives are being conducted along riverbanks to restore environmental balance. These efforts are enhancing greenery and helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. Dormant rivers have been revitalised, turning into active water channels.

As a result, irrigation access for farmers has improved, groundwater levels have risen, and village ecosystems are experiencing positive change—signalling a new chapter of rural growth and ecological stability in Uttar Pradesh. (ANI)
