Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 2 (HBTV): In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has declared the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj as a new district. This decision, taken on Sunday, aims to streamline the management and administration of the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela, scheduled from January 13 to February 26, 2025.



The new district, named Maha Kumbh Mela, has been established to enhance the organization of the grand religious event and ensure efficient administrative operations.



In an official order, District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandad stated:

‘I, Ravindra Kumar Mandad, District Magistrate, in continuation of the instructions given in Government's letter No.-3966 / 9-1-2024-408057 dated 25.11.2024, exercising the powers conferred under Section 2 (th) of the Uttar Pradesh Prayagraj Mela Authority, Prayagraj Act, 2017, hereby issue a notification to declare Maha Kumbh Mela District for the organization of Maha Kumbh 2025. The boundary of the Maha Kumbh Mela District will include the revenue villages and the entire parade area described in Annexure-I.’



The order further elaborated that within the Maha Kumbh Mela district, the Mela Adhikari (Kumbh Mela, Prayagraj) will be vested with the powers of Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate, and Additional District Magistrate. Additionally, an Additional Collector will be appointed to exercise all powers and functions of the Collector under the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006, as amended.



Held once every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh Mela is a pivotal event in Indian culture, attracting millions of devotees and tourists. The creation of a dedicated district underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the success of this grand celebration.
