Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 11 (HBTV): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said the state has transitioned from a revenue deficit to a revenue surplus, highlighting the change during the recent assembly budget session in Lucknow.
Addressing the House, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh has witnessed significant improvements in governance over the past nine years and credited the shift to the policies of the ‘double-engine government’.
‘In the last nine years, Uttar Pradesh has embarked on a journey. The nation and the world acknowledge that change has come to Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, governments pursuing narrow agendas had compromised the state’s future and its people and turned it into a bastion of anarchy, chaos and crime,’ Adityanath said.
‘Thanks to the clear policies, intentions and commitment to good governance of the double-engine government, we have transformed Uttar Pradesh from a bottleneck to a breakthrough in the country’s economy. Uttar Pradesh has now moved from a revenue deficit to a revenue surplus,’ he added.
The Chief Minister said that more than 2.19 lakh police personnel have been recruited in the state over the past eight years, with 20 per cent of the posts reserved for women.
‘In these eight years, 2,19,000 police personnel have been recruited. Twenty per cent of these are reserved for women. Seven police commissioners are presenting a new model of modern policing, while cyber police stations and cyber cells are rapidly establishing their identity,’ he said.
Adityanath also said forensic evidence is now mandatory in cases carrying punishment of more than seven years, adding that 12 Grade A forensic laboratories are currently operational in the state.
‘Forensic evidence is now mandatory for sentences exceeding seven years in the state and nationwide. Today we have already commissioned twelve Grade A labs. The Safe City project is implemented in 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddha Nagar,’ he said.
He added that the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime has helped strengthen law and order and contributed to the growth of religious tourism.
‘Today, the rule of law prevails. Record police recruitments were made in the state. The focus was on women’s empowerment. New schemes were created for the youth. Work was done for modern policing and the development of robust cyber and forensic infrastructure,’ the Chief Minister said.
‘A zero-tolerance culture has given Uttar Pradesh a new identity. The festival and temple economy is growing in the state. Over 21 crore devotees took a holy dip in the Triveni River during the Magh Mela. Since 2017, there have been no communal riots in Uttar Pradesh,’ he added.
Adityanath also stressed the need to respect constitutional authorities and national symbols and said public representatives must act responsibly.
‘The Governor is the constitutional head of the state. The conduct of our main opposition towards the constitutional head weakens democracy. It is our responsibility to respect our national symbols and maintain respect and honour towards constitutional heads. We must not exhibit any behaviour that leads future generations of the country astray,’ he said.
