Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], January 31 (HBTV): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has highlighted what he described as a significant transformation in sports infrastructure and competitions across the country over the past 11 years, stressing that youth participation in sports was essential for national progress.

Addressing a gathering in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister said that the government had prioritised the development of sports facilities at the grassroots level and emphasised the role of physical activity in building a healthy society. ‘Today, there has been a significant change in sports competitions over the past 11 years. The government has decided that every village should have a sports field. Only when our youth play will the country flourish, and the path to realising a developed India will begin from here. A healthy body can only be achieved through sports, games and yoga practice,’ he said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister visited a night shelter built near a dharamshala in Gorakhpur and distributed blankets and food packets among the needy amid a severe cold wave affecting North India, including Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking to the media, Yogi Adityanath said the state government had taken proactive measures to protect vulnerable sections of society. ‘A severe cold wave is sweeping across the entire North India. In light of the severe cold wave in Uttar Pradesh, the government has allocated sufficient funds to all district administrations to set up night shelters in every district and distribute blankets to those in need,’ he said.

He added that ensuring the safety and welfare of the state’s population remained the government’s top priority. The Chief Minister inspected night shelters in the Transport Nagar and Dharamshala Bazaar areas of Gorakhpur and reviewed arrangements for cold wave relief, overseeing the distribution of food and blankets to those in need.
