Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], November 5 (HBTV): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai praised the bravery and dedication of police personnel in combating Naxalism while promoting development in affected areas, as the state observed Police Commemoration Day.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Sai said that Police Commemoration Day is observed to honour the sacrifices of police and security personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. ‘The jawans ensure the safety of all by serving in tough situations,’ he said.

Addressing the state’s fight against Naxalism, the Chief Minister commended the courage of security personnel who have pushed Naxals on the back foot while ensuring developmental progress in affected regions. He reiterated the government’s goal of eliminating Naxalism from Chhattisgarh by March 31, 2026.

‘Recalling the commitment to weed out Naxalism from Chhattisgarh by March 31, 2026, CM Sai said that with the courage of our police personnel, the target will be achieved within the set timeframe,’ he stated.

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also lauded the role of security personnel, highlighting their dual efforts in fighting Naxalism and fostering development in the Bastar region. ‘Sending the message of courage while fighting Naxalism, the security personnel are playing a pivotal role in the development of the Bastar region,’ Sharma said.

Paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in service, Sharma reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen personnel. He added that memorials are being constructed in the native villages of the jawans.

Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to honour the memory of gallant policemen who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The date marks the 1959 Hot Springs incident in Ladakh, where ten brave Indian policemen were ambushed and killed by the Chinese Army in an unequal confrontation inside Indian territory. The decision to observe this day was taken during the DGsP/IGsP Conference in 1962.
