Assam: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi to take charge as APCC president on June 3, preparations underway

Gaurav Gogoi, the newly appointed President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will formally assume charge as APCC President on June 3.

Guwahati (Assam) [India], May 29 (HBTV): Gaurav Gogoi, the newly appointed President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, will formally assume charge as APCC President on June 3. A preparation meeting was held with great enthusiasm at Rajiv Bhawan on Wednesday to welcome Gogoi.

Following the meeting, APCC Working President Zakir Hussain Sikdar and General Secretary Bipul Gogoi briefed the media about the schedule Gaurav Gogoi will follow upon his return to Assam from New Delhi. He is scheduled to arrive in Jorhat on May 31, where he will interact with the local public and party workers.

On June 1, Gogoi will visit Nazira to attend a meeting organised by Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, and will exchange views with party workers and residents. He will then spend the night in Sivasagar and continue his journey to Nagaon via Jorhat and Golaghat. In Nagaon, he will meet with members of the party organisation, engage with the public, and attend a public gathering.

On the following day, Gogoi and his entourage will travel from Nagaon to Guwahati. On June 3, he will attend a meeting with party leaders and workers at the Manvendra Sharma Complex, where he will officially take charge as the new APCC President.

Meanwhile, in a video message released on Wednesday, Gogoi appealed for the support and cooperation of all sections of Assam’s citizens to help build a new Assam free from corruption and fear.

The preparation meeting was attended by former MPs Ripun Bora, Abdul Khaleque, and Mira Borthakur; Mahila Congress President Gunakanta Gogoi; Vice President Nripen Thakuriya; Rupa Deuri; MLAs Rekibuddin Ahmed, Diganta Barman, Shibamani Bora, Nurul Huda, and A.K. Rashid; along with nearly all Congress MLAs.

General Secretary Ramanna Baruah, Deep Bayan, Pradesh Congress Seva Dal President Jueer Anam, Youth Congress President, and the presidents and secretaries of nearly every frontal organisation of the Congress also attended the event.

A large gathering of Congress leaders and workers was observed during the preparation meeting.
