Cachar (Assam) [India], December 16 (HBTV): Assam Police on Monday seized 90,000 Yaba tablets with an estimated market value of INR 26 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in Cachar district, officials said.

Police also apprehended two persons and recovered the contraband from a secret chamber of a truck. Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das said the operation was conducted in the Rongpur area under Silchar police station based on specific intelligence inputs.

‘One truck bearing registration number AS-01FC-0018 was intercepted, leading to the recovery of 90,000 Yaba tablets from a secret chamber of the vehicle,’ Das said.

He added that two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure and identified as Dalim Uddin Laskar and Abed Sultan Barbhuiya. ‘Both apprehended persons belong to the Dholai police station area. The vehicle was coming from a neighbouring state and was headed towards Guwahati. Legal action has been initiated to trace the forward and backward linkages,’ the senior police officer said.

According to the police, a case has been registered in connection with the seizure.

Earlier, on December 5, Assam Police had seized 10,000 Yaba tablets worth around INR 3 crore from Cachar district and arrested one person in that case. Cachar district police said the accused, identified as Nazmul Hq Mazumdar (23), was apprehended during a raid conducted at the Berenga Pt 3 area in Silchar based on reliable inputs. (ANI)
