Cattle-smuggling family attacks Assam police personnel with sharp weapons; family arrested

Assam police authorities have arrested a family that is alleged to be cattle smugglers. The family is said to have attacked Assam police personnel when the latter approached the former.

Silchar, Assam, May 15 (HBTV): Assam police authorities have arrested a family that is alleged to be cattle smugglers. The family is said to have attacked Assam police personnel when the latter approached the former.    

Dreaded cattle smuggling mafia led by one Pakhi Miah alias Abdul Wahid and his family have been a pain for the police force due to their cattle smuggling activities. When the police went to arrest them the previous night, the family members allegedly attacked injuring a sub inspector, one Chandan Patwary.     

This incident occurred in Natanpur under Gumrah police post bordering Bangladesh. The officer in charge of Gumrah Police Post, Pancha Pallav Bora, sub inspector Chandan Patwary, female constable Korobi Das, along with 15 other policemen went to arrest Pakhi Miah from his residence in Natanpur. 

Upon the police party's arrival, Pakhi Miah’s family members came out and attacked the police personnel with sharp weapons that included swords and machetes.   

Miah's wife Abida Begum Laskar allegedly attacked female constable Korobi Das, which led to sub inspector Chandan Patwary to intervene. Patwary was struck with a sharp machete on the head. Patwary has been rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.     

Gumrah police has arrested Pakhi Miah, his wife Abida Begum Laskar, daughter Kulsama Begum, and son Ruhit Ahmed.
