Moktowa (Arunachal Pradesh) [India], February 13 (HBTV): An armed Naga extremist from the NSCN-Khango faction has surrendered.

The surrendered individual was identified as Wangkhu Lowang, a self-styled lieutenant of NSCN-K (Khango Konyak faction), aged 32, and a resident of Moktowa village in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

During the surrender, Lowang handed over one 7.65 mm pistol with a magazine and six live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition.

Officials said the surrender highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations and the humane and persuasive approach adopted by security forces. Assam Rifles, in coordination with other security agencies, continues to encourage insurgents to return to the mainstream and remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, from February 1 to 7, formations of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, in coordination with the Manipur Police, conducted joint intelligence-based operations across multiple districts in Manipur, including Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur, and Pherzawl.

According to an official release, the operations led to the apprehension of seven cadres from hill- and valley-based insurgent groups and the recovery of 18 weapons, explosives, and other war-like stores.

On February 1, Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos launched a joint operation in Mayang Imphal area of Imphal West district, resulting in the apprehension of one active cadre of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (SOREPA). One smartphone with a SIM card was recovered.

On February 2, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police detected a concealed insurgent hideout near Tonglhang village. Security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle, two pistols, two single-barrel rifles, three radio sets, 18 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), ammunition rounds, wire bundles, and cartridge cases. All IEDs were safely destroyed at the site in accordance with established procedures. The remnants weighed approximately 2.5 kilograms. (ANI)
