Guwahati (Assam) [India], October 3 (HBTV): In connection with the death of singer Zubeen Garg, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police on Thursday arrested co-musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and co-singer Amritprava Mahanta, bringing the total arrests in the case to four.

Munna Prasad Gupta, Special Investigation Team (SIT) Chief and Special DGP, CID, said that following several days of interrogation by the SIT, both Goswami and Mahanta were taken into custody on Thursday night.

Earlier on Wednesday, the CID arrested Shyamkanu Mahanta, the main organiser of the North East India Festival in Singapore, along with Zubeen Garg's manager Siddharth Sharma. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Kamrup (Metro) district remanded both into 14 days of police custody.

The CID has also added a murder charge under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act to the case.

Today marks the 13th day since the passing of Zubeen Garg, who died in Singapore while swimming. His mortal remains were first flown to Delhi and later transported to Guwahati on September 21 by a commercial flight.

On September 27, Assamese actress Nishita Goswami and Shekhar Jyoti Goswami appeared before the CID in connection with the probe. The department has registered a case under Sections 61(2), 105 and 106(1) of the BNS, 2023, regarding the suspicious death.
