London [UK], October 28 (HBTV): England’s legendary fast bowler James Anderson was knighted on Tuesday for his exceptional contributions to cricket, marking the crowning moment of a 22-year international career that yielded 704 Test wickets — the most by any fast bowler in history.
With this honour, Anderson joins an elite group of English cricket greats, including Sir Ian Botham, Sir Geoffrey Boycott, Sir Alastair Cook, and Sir Andrew Strauss, cementing his legacy as one of the nation’s finest sportsmen.
In a post on X, Lancashire Cricket wrote, ‘Arise, Sir James Anderson! A special day for @jimmy9 as he received his knighthood from Princess Anne at Windsor Castle! The greatest fast bowler to ever do it.’
Anderson remains England’s leading wicket-taker in One-Day Internationals with 269 wickets — a record unlikely to be surpassed. Although he played just 19 T20Is, taking 18 wickets, his influence on red-ball cricket has been unparalleled. Known for his mastery of both conventional and reverse swing, he made his Test debut against Zimbabwe at Lord’s and is set to bid farewell to the game at the same historic venue.
His spell of 6/17 against Pakistan at Trent Bridge in 2010 remains one of the defining moments of his career, showcasing his ability to dismantle top batting line-ups with surgical precision.
After debuting at Lord’s in 2003, Anderson concluded his illustrious Test career with 704 wickets, ranking third on the all-time list behind spin legends Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708).
