Istanbul [Turkey], May 21 (HBTV): Aston Villa F.C. ended a 44-year wait for European glory with a commanding 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League Final at Besiktas Park, lifting their first major continental trophy since winning the 1982 European Cup.

The victory also marked manager Unai Emery’s fifth Europa League title, further cementing his reputation as one of the competition’s most successful tacticians, according to ESPN.

Wearing an all-white strip in tribute to the club’s iconic 1982 European Cup-winning side, Villa made an aggressive start and nearly scored within the opening two minutes. Morgan Rogers forced Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu into an early save with a powerful low strike as the Premier League club quickly established control of the match.

Freiburg, appearing in the first European final in the club’s history, briefly threatened through Nicolas Hofler, but the midfielder dragged his effort wide after finding space on the edge of the penalty area.

Villa’s dominance paid off late in the first half with two goals in seven minutes. The breakthrough came from a well-worked corner routine as Rogers collected a short pass before delivering a floated ball into the area for Youri Tielemans, who fired a superb low volley past Atubolu.

Freiburg had little time to recover before Emiliano Buendía doubled Villa’s lead in stoppage time. Receiving possession just outside the box, the Argentine turned sharply and curled an unstoppable strike into the far corner.

Any hopes of a Freiburg comeback disappeared shortly before the hour mark when Rogers capped an outstanding display with Villa’s third goal. Buendia delivered a dangerous low cross, and Rogers darted across his marker to finish from close range.

Freiburg attempted to respond with substitutions, but Villa continued to dominate proceedings, with Buendia and John McGinn both coming close to adding another goal.

The final whistle confirmed a historic night for Aston Villa, who completed an impressive season by combining European silverware with a top-five Premier League finish.
