New Delhi [India], May 7 (HBTV): India on Wednesday carried out its deepest strike inside Pakistan's undisputed borders since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, CNN reported. The cross-border strikes represent New Delhi’s most significant military action within Pakistani territory in more than five decades.
According to CNN, Pakistan claimed that five locations were hit by India—three in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and two in Pakistan’s Punjab province, including Ahmadpur East and Muridke.
However, sources told ANI that Indian armed forces successfully struck nine terror targets—four in Pakistan, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot, and five in PoJK—using special precision munitions and Kamikaze drones. The operation was described as a coordinated effort involving all three defence services.
The mission, named Operation Sindoor, was jointly conducted by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. It involved mobilisation of troops and military assets. Sources confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was closely monitoring the entire operation throughout the night. All nine designated targets were reported to have been hit successfully.
Indian forces selected the targets with the objective of eliminating top commanders of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), both organisations responsible for orchestrating terrorist attacks within India.
CNN noted that the last instance of India striking inside Pakistan's undisputed territory occurred in 2019, when Indian fighter jets carried out airstrikes in response to the Pulwama suicide bombing that killed over 40 Indian paramilitary personnel.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence said that in the early hours of Wednesday, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in both Pakistan and PoJK from where attacks against India were being planned and directed.
The Ministry emphasised that the actions were focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature. It added that no Pakistani military installations were targeted, and India exercised considerable restraint in both target selection and execution method.
The strikes were carried out in response to what the government called the ‘barbaric’ terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national. The government reiterated its determination to hold the perpetrators accountable.
Precision strike weapon systems from all three services, including loitering munitions, were deployed in the operation. The coordinates for the attacks were provided by Indian intelligence agencies, and all munitions were launched from within Indian territory.
