New Delhi [India], October 2 (HBTV): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday extended greetings to the Chinese people and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the occasion of China’s National Day, expressing hope for stabilising and rebuilding bilateral ties.

In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, ‘Greetings to Politburo Member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the Chinese people on the occasion of the founding day of the People’s Republic of China. Look forward to continuing our work to stabilize and rebuild our ties.’

China celebrates its National Day on October 1, marking the 76th anniversary of its founding.

Earlier in September, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to China for the SCO Summit at Tianjin, he held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Both leaders welcomed the positive momentum and steady progress in relations since their last meeting in Kazan on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in October 2024.

Modi emphasised the importance of peace and tranquillity along the border areas for the development of ties. The leaders noted with satisfaction the disengagement achieved last year and reaffirmed their commitment to a fair and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question.

They also recognised the recent decisions taken by Special Representatives in their talks and agreed to support their efforts. On people-to-people ties, they highlighted the need to expand exchanges through direct flights and visa facilitation, building on the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra and tourist visas.

On trade and economic relations, both acknowledged the role of India and China in stabilising world trade, while underlining the importance of reducing the trade deficit and expanding investment ties.

Reaffirming that the two countries are development partners and not rivals, the leaders called for a stable relationship based on mutual respect, interest, and sensitivity, which they said was necessary for the growth of both nations and for advancing a multipolar Asia and multipolar world.
