Las Vegas [US], April 18 (HBTV): Paramount has announced the release date of the film adaptation of the video game Call of Duty at CinemaCon 2026. The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on June 30, 2028, according to Variety.

Pete Berg is set to direct the film from a script by Taylor Sheridan. 'Taylor and I are both deeply connected to the special ops community,' Berg said in a video message to the annual convention of movie theatre owners.

The Deepwater Horizon director said he and Sheridan are prioritising authenticity among elite soldiers 'on a human level, but also bring amazing scale.'

Call of Duty is one of the biggest gaming franchises of all time, with around 1 billion players and a lifetime revenue of USD 35 billion. It made a generation believe 'there's a soldier in all of us,' as reported by Variety.

Plot details and cast for the Call of Duty film have not been revealed. The game is a first-person shooter military series.

Paramount has had success adapting video games into films, turning Sonic the Hedgehog into a major film and streaming franchise. Video games have also inspired recent blockbusters such as Super Mario Bros. and A Minecraft Movie.

Call of Duty is backed by Microsoft-owned video game publisher Activision and includes more than 30 mainline games released since its debut in 2003.

When the deal to make the film was announced in September, sources said that while the agreement is focused on one Call of Duty movie, it also includes the potential to expand the franchise across film and television. (ANI)
