Tehran (Iran) [Iran], April 2 (HBTV): Kamal Kharazi, a senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader, sustained injuries during a US-Israeli strike on the Iranian capital, according to reports.
Mehr News Agency stated, 'In today's bombing of residential homes in Tehran by the American-Zionist enemy, Dr Kamal Kharazi was injured.'
The veteran diplomat, who served as Iran’s foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 during the presidency of former president Mohammad Khatami, was reportedly targeted in the strike.
According to media reports, Kharazi’s residence in Tehran was hit earlier on Wednesday during the US-Israeli military action.
While Mehr News Agency confirmed his injuries following the strike on residential areas, it did not provide details about the extent of his condition.
The incident comes amid the ongoing West Asia conflict following the commencement of US and Israeli strikes on February 28. The conflict has led to a significant escalation in regional hostilities, with Iran reportedly retaliating through drone and missile strikes against Israel and Gulf nations hosting American military assets.
Kharazi, who continues to serve as a senior adviser, had appeared in an interview earlier in March, where he expressed the view that Iran has the capability to sustain the conflict for an extended period and indicated limited scope for diplomacy.
The development also follows a report by Fars News Agency stating that Iran has threatened to target American technology firms if further Iranian leaders are attacked. (ANI)
