Kabul (Afghanistan), October 15 (HBTV): At least 12 civilians were killed and over 100 injured after Pakistani forces reportedly attacked the Spin Boldak district in Kandahar province, triggering heavy cross-border clashes, Afghan officials said.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Afghan foreign ministry, stated that Pakistani forces opened fire using light and heavy weapons, targeting civilian areas. In response, Afghan forces launched retaliatory strikes, claiming to have seized multiple Pakistani military positions and inflicted significant damage on their assets.
‘In retaliatory operations, multiple Pakistani aggressor soldiers were killed, their posts and centres were captured, weapons and tanks fell into Afghan hands, and most of their military installations were destroyed,’ Mujahid said. He added that the battle was brought under Afghan control by 8 a.m., and the forces remain ready to defend their homeland.
The Spin Boldak crossing, a strategically sensitive border area, has witnessed repeated flare-ups in the past.
Separately, clashes reportedly resumed along the border in Pakistan’s Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa later Tuesday night. State broadcaster PTV News reported that Afghan Taliban and Fitna al-Khawarij militants opened fire, prompting a strong Pakistani Army response. Several Taliban posts and tank positions were reportedly destroyed, with at least one high-ranking commander of Fitna al-Khawarij killed.
