Washington DC [US], May 11 (HBTV): US President Donald Trump on Sunday criticised Iran over its response to a proposal aimed at ending hostilities and establishing peace amid the evolving security situation in West Asia and the Gulf region, calling it 'totally unacceptable'.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was dissatisfied with the reply received from Tehran’s representatives.
'I have just read the response from Iran's so-called "Representatives." I don't like it -- TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Thank you for your attention to this matter,' he said.
The remarks come after Iran submitted its response to a US proposal for de-escalating regional hostilities through Islamabad, according to Iranian state media.
The development follows earlier statements from Iran’s Foreign Ministry indicating that Tehran’s 'views and considerations' on the US-led initiative would be shared after a comprehensive review.
According to the state-run IRNA news agency, 'The Islamic Republic of Iran sent today, through Pakistani mediators, its response to the latest text proposed by the United States to end the war.' The report added that the immediate focus of the proposal is on ending the conflict in the region.
Reports indicate that Iran’s draft response includes demands for the US to 'lift sanctions on Iran', end the 'blockade on Iranian ports', withdraw its forces from the region, and cease hostilities, including ending 'Israel's war in Lebanon'.
The diplomatic exchange comes amid heightened tensions, with Tehran recently warning that it may abandon its policy of strategic restraint regarding retaliatory strikes. This coincided with reports from Gulf nations of fresh maritime and territorial hostilities, including an attack on a freighter bound for Qatar.
Trump also criticised previous US administrations for what he described as lenient policies towards Iran.
In an earlier interview with journalist Sharyl Attkisson, aired on Sunday, Trump said the US is closely monitoring Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles and warned of immediate military action if access attempts are made.
On the current status of the conflict, Trump claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened.
'They have no navy, no air force, they have no anti-aircraft weaponry, no leaders,' he said, adding that rebuilding the country’s infrastructure would take decades if the US were to withdraw.
When asked whether US military operations had concluded, Trump indicated that operations may continue, stating that about 70 per cent of intended targets had been destroyed and further action could follow.
Reiterating his opposition to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons, Trump said the international community must not allow what he termed a 'crazy' regime to develop such capabilities. (ANI)
