Chhattisgarh: 4 laborers killed after rock caves in at Dantewada mine area after landslide

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], February 28 (HBTV): Four laborers were killed and two others sustained injuries after a portion of a rock caved in at an iron ore mine in Dantewada district following a landslide, a police official said. 



The deceased were identified as Bittu Bala (26), Tushar Bala (49), Nirmal Bala (56), all residents of West Bengal; and Santosh Kumar Das (29), a resident of Bihar. 



According to Additional Superintendant of Police RK Burman the incident took place at approximately 3 pm on Tuesday afternoon, during construction of a retaining wall as part of the Screen Plant-03 extension project of the National Mineral Development Corporation.      



The area is under the Kirandul police station limits. 



According to reports, the four laborers working at the site were killed after rocks fell on them. They were buried under the debris, the reports stated. 



On receiving information about the incident, officials of the district administration, police, and the SDRF rushed to the site and attempted to rescue the trapped laborers.



The bodies of the four laborers were retrieved after six hours, the police official said. 



The police administration has informed the families of the deceased persons and a case has been registered by the Kirandul police station. 



Additional Superintendent of Police Burman stated that appropriate legal action would be taken against the culprits.
