DRI seizes more than nine kg of cocaine worth 100 crore, four arrested

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 20 (HBTV): In a major success in curbing illegal drugs in India, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Mumbai seized 9.829 kg of cocaine with an illicit market value of approximately 100 crore. The authorities apprehended two female passengers of Indonesian and Thai nationalities who had come from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a press release said. 



An interrogation of the passengers and case data revealed that the drugs were destined for smuggling by a syndicate based in Delhi and nearby areas. 



The officers laid a trap in Greater Noida with the help of local officers and identified the alleged mastermind, said to be a Nigerian. 



During the interception, the alleged mastermind became violent and tried to flee by pushing the officers. The DRI officers chased down the suspect and apprehended the Nigerian and his associate. The officers and the accused persons were mildly injured during the chase. The identities of the accused persons were unavailable at press time.  



The accused individuals were arrested by the DRI under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985, a release said.
