Washington DC [US], October 7 (HBTV): US President Donald Trump on Monday highlighted the importance of boosting independent production of critical minerals and welcomed China’s approval of the TikTok deal with US companies, emphasizing American involvement in the acquisition.

Trump said, ‘Well, it's very necessary. You know, in the past, we were able to go to other countries, buy whatever we want, but all of a sudden, if those countries are hostile, and by the way, China hasn't, we've made deals with China. You know, they approve the TikTok deal. Everyone said you'd never get the TikTok deal approved. They approved it, and we have great people buying it, American, big, strong American companies are buying it… and they're going to make sure everything's good.’

Although he described Chinese President Xi Jinping as non-hostile, Trump stressed the value of the US having its own minerals. ‘President Xi was great. He approved it. So I'm not saying hostile, but it's good to have our own minerals,’ he said.

Trump also spoke about the Ambler Road Project in Alaska, stating that constructing a 200-mile road through a challenging region would unlock billions of dollars in mineral wealth. ‘We created tremendous value by creating a road… and we unleash billions and billions of dollars of wealth. It’s pretty amazing,’ he added.

The former president further lauded US leadership in artificial intelligence (AI). He explained that AI companies are building their own power plants to ensure sufficient electricity for their operations, which may also feed surplus power back into the grid. ‘Because of that and other things that we're doing, we're leading every country, nobody's even close to us with AI,’ he said, noting its potential in medical applications and reducing medication costs.

Trump highlighted the scale of AI infrastructure, describing one of Meta’s plants as ‘essentially the size… almost the size of Manhattan,’ and reiterated that the US is leading globally in AI development.
