Los Angeles [US], July 21 (HBTV): The wait is over. The official trailer for Robert Downey Jr.-starrer Avengers: Doomsday was unveiled on Monday evening.
The trailer shows Marvel's heroes assembling as Doctor Doom prepares to unleash a multiverse-spanning war. Thor faces off against Doom and reunites with Chris Evans' Captain America, marking his long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after Avengers: Endgame. Several of Fox's X-Men characters also officially cross over into the Avengers' universe, including Professor Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, Cyclops and Channing Tatum's Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine. After appearing on the big screen last year, the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts also return to help the Avengers save the multiverse, according to Variety.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release in theatres on December 18, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars a year later.
The details of Robert Downey Jr.'s portrayal of Doctor Doom have not been fully explained, but the character is believed to be a variant of Iron Man from another universe. He briefly appeared, with his face concealed, in the post-credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps.
