Washington DC [US], December 23 (HBTV): The makers on Monday released the first teaser trailer of filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film The Odyssey, offering a glimpse into the epic retelling of the Greek hero Odysseus’ journey home after the Trojan War.

According to Variety, the film follows Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, as he undertakes a long and perilous journey back home. Universal Pictures had earlier released a first-look photograph of Damon in costume in February. The film also stars Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo, among others. Nolan has written and directed the film and is producing it alongside Emma Thomas.

The teaser shows Odysseus being shipwrecked with his army and navigating a treacherous path across land and sea. Scenes include Odysseus and his soldiers inside the legendary Trojan horse, which had earlier been teased in a six-minute clip screened before IMAX 70mm showings of Sinners and One Battle After Another. The trailer also features Odysseus trekking through caves, including one where a large and ominous creature appears in the shadows.

Brief shots show Tom Holland as Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, and Anne Hathaway as Penelope, his wife. Universal Pictures shared the teaser on its official Instagram account.

Universal had announced last December that The Odyssey would be shot across multiple locations worldwide using new IMAX film technology. Universal executive Jim Orr said at CinemaCon that audiences could expect ‘a visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of’, according to Variety.

Actor John Leguizamo has compared Nolan’s work ethic to that of an independent filmmaker, saying, ‘He’s not doing it by committee, he’s not doing it by what the studio says,’ during a recent appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, as reported by Variety.

Nolan’s most recent film, Oppenheimer, won seven Academy Awards in 2024. (ANI)
