Washington DC [US], February 21 (HBTV): The next big-screen adventure of the turtle brothers Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo will arrive in theatres earlier than previously scheduled, according to Variety.
The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, Mutant Mayhem 2, will now release on August 13, 2027, moving up from its earlier announced date of September 17.
According to Variety, the sequel is directed by Jeff Rowe, with Kyler Spears and Yashar Kassai serving as co-directors. Rowe and Spears also worked on the first film alongside producers and writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who are returning for the sequel.
The producing team also includes James Weaver, Josh Fagen and Ramsay McBean from Point Grey, with Lukas Williams serving as executive producer.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand has been a key priority for Paramount Pictures in recent years, with further emphasis under new Skydance management.
The first Mutant Mayhem film was released in August 2023 and grossed USD 181 million worldwide.
Variety also reported that Paramount has scheduled an untitled live-action/CG animation hybrid Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film for November 17, 2028. It will be the first live-action TMNT film since 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
Earlier this month, Paramount announced plans to expand the franchise through multiple ventures, including a major toy licensing partnership with Mattel beginning in 2027, an illustrated middle-grade book titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splinter’s Dojo, a novel for adults based on the graphic novel The Last Ronin, a preschool-targeted digital series titled Teeny Mutant Ninja Turtles for YouTube, and themed pizzerias set to open in Santa Monica, Monterrey, Mexico and Sao Paulo, Brazil, Variety reported.
