Merapani, Wokha, April 16 (HBTV): The warning about the dangers of immigrants has begun to show its face. Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly Achumbemo Kikon visited the Nagaland government-owned Merapani Seed Farm to assess a situation arising out of protests by laborers and immigrants who have started claiming the seed farm.
The legislator was accompanied by members of various organizations in the area, besides personnel and officers of the 7th Nagaland Armed Police and border magistrate, updates received here on April 16 said.
Kikon said that the Merapani Seed Farm, which measures 1300 acres, belongs to the Nagaland government. Illegal immigrants from Assam and tenants have no right whatsoever to claim even an inch of the seed farm, the legislator said.
The legislator has asked the department of Agriculture to immediately cancel the permit and lease issued to the locals as well as to the non-locals to reclaim the entire farm. He demanded that the facility be converted into a rice bowl for the state.
The MLA also urged the department to fence the entire stretch of the Merapani Seed farm to protect it from illegal settlers and encroachers, the updates said.
