Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], August 20 (HBTV): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed appointment letters to 1,494 newly selected assistant operators in the UP Police Telecom Department, stressing that recruitment in the state has become transparent, fair, and free from corruption since 2017.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, the CM recalled that before 2017, recruitment was marred by corruption, nepotism, and discrimination, which weakened law and order and derailed youth aspirations. He cited incidents of riots, terrorist attacks, and unrest in Ayodhya, Kashi, Lucknow, and Rampur as consequences of flawed past practices.
“After the double-engine government came to power in 2017, the first major step was to make the recruitment process transparent and fair. The Police Recruitment Board was strengthened as part of this effort. As a result, Uttar Pradesh now ranks first in the country for police recruitment and providing government jobs. So far, 8.5 lakh youth have been given government jobs — the highest in India,” Yogi Adityanath said.
He added that the recruitment reforms represented more than numbers, reflecting “a new identity, safety, and trust in Uttar Pradesh.” Since 2017, over 2,17,500 personnel have been inducted into the police through a transparent process — the highest in the country.
The CM highlighted the expansion of training capacity, noting that while earlier only around 3,000 police recruits could be trained, the state now trains over 60,000 within its own institutes. He also pointed to improved infrastructure, with new police lines and headquarters established in 10 districts, and the long-pending Police Commissionerate system finally implemented in 7 new commissionerates.
Yogi Adityanath said the UP Police had become a “model force,” citing the Mahakumbh as an example of their dedication and sensitivity. He also reminded police personnel that public trust depended not only on their work but also on their behaviour.
To boost women’s participation, the government has implemented a 20 per cent reservation in the force, under which around 300 of the 1,494 selected telecom assistant operators are women. The CM also announced a 20 per cent reservation for Agniveer recruits in the UP Police, calling it a way to bring disciplined, trained youth into the force.
He praised the Telecom Department for its role in the Mahakumbh, describing communication as the “backbone of policing” in a state with a population of 25 crore.
“As India moves towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy in the Amrit Kaal of independence, our police must be both sensitive and strict. With every new generation, we must present a safe, transparent, and capable Uttar Pradesh where the police serve as a source of inspiration,” the CM said.
