Chandigarh [India], July 20 (HBTV): Blaming previous governments for the severe waterlogging issues in Gurugram, Haryana Minister Anil Vij on Friday said that people are suffering because opposition parties failed to properly plan the city’s development.
'At the time when Gurugram was established, there was a government of opposition parties. Digging of new drains is not done in a city that is already established. Earlier, they (the opposition) did not dig proper drains in Gurugram. Today, people are facing troubles because they (opposition parties) did not do proper planning,' Anil Vij told ANI.
Several parts of Gurugram witnessed severe waterlogging following incessant overnight rainfall, leading to traffic disruptions and problems for pedestrians.
In view of the downpour, corporate offices and private institutions in Gurugram district were advised to instruct employees to work from home on Thursday, July 10, to avoid traffic congestion.
The rainfall, which began on Wednesday evening, brought relief from intense humidity and high temperatures, with overcast skies continuing across the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted a 'generally cloudy sky with moderate rain' for the national capital, and a forecast of 'thunderstorm with rain' for the next three days in Delhi. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, Gurugram is likely to experience a 'generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers' over the next two days.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan’s Ajmer also witnessed waterlogging in many areas following heavy rainfall.
The IMD has forecasted 'thunderstorm with rain' conditions to persist in Gurugram till July 13. The agency earlier stated that active monsoon conditions are expected to continue over central parts of the country for the next four to five days.
