Rajasthan’s CID Intelligence arrested Mahendra Prasad, a contractual manager at the DRDO Guest House near Chandan Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer, on charges of spying for Pakistan’s ISI.

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], August 13 (HBTV): Rajasthan’s CID Intelligence on Tuesday arrested Mahendra Prasad, a contractual manager at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Guest House near Chandan Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer, on charges of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and sending confidential and strategic information across the border.

Prasad is scheduled to be presented in court on Wednesday, after which he will be taken on remand for further interrogation.

Inspector General of Police CID (Security), Rajasthan, Dr. Vishnukant, said that in view of the upcoming state-level Independence Day celebrations, CID Intelligence has been closely monitoring possible anti-national and subversive activities carried out by foreign agents in the state.

During this surveillance, officials learnt that Prasad, a resident of Palyun in Almora district of Uttarakhand, was in contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives through social media and had been providing confidential information about the movement of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers visiting the firing range for missile and weapons testing.

The suspect was jointly interrogated by multiple intelligence agencies at the Central Interrogation Centre in Jaipur, and his mobile phone was subjected to technical examination. The investigation confirmed that he had supplied sensitive information related to the DRDO and the Indian Army to Pakistani handlers.

A case was registered against Prasad, son of Chaniram and aged 32, on August 12 under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. He was subsequently arrested by CID Intelligence, Rajasthan, on charges of espionage.
