Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised that education must go beyond academic performance to instil moral values, cultural ethos, and a ‘Nation First’ spirit.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 10 (HBTV): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday emphasised that education must go beyond academic performance to instil moral values, cultural ethos, and a ‘Nation First’ spirit.

Speaking at the Teachers' Gratitude Ceremony at City Montessori School (CMS), the Chief Minister said, ‘The true aim of education is character-building — to lead a life that serves the nation and inspires society, and not just chasing grades.’

He asserted that only by aligning education with values and national ideals can a foundation be laid for a developed India — one where every citizen is safe, prosperous, and self-reliant.

Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), CM Yogi noted that education and educators play a pivotal role in shaping a generation that is not only academically proficient but also morally grounded.

The Chief Minister felicitated ICSE and ISC Board toppers of Classes 10 and 12, along with JEE Main achievers. Teachers were also honoured during the event.

Recalling the humble beginnings of CMS, CM Yogi said the institution was founded nearly 70 years ago by Dr Jagdish Gandhi and Dr Bharti Gandhi. Despite limited means as students at Lucknow University, they envisioned providing quality education to the city — a dream that now serves thousands of students.

He pointed out that not every student will appear on the merit list, but many can still excel in fields such as sports, arts, and public service. Referencing India’s ancient Vedic heritage, he cited the verse Mata Bhumi: Putro’ham Prithivya: (The Earth is my mother, I am her son), linking it to the CMS motto Jai Jagat.

‘Prime Minister Modi reiterates this same sentiment through the mantra of “Nation First”,’ the Chief Minister said. He urged all citizens to live by this spirit in every sphere of life.

Referring to PM Modi’s remarks, CM Yogi said the principle of ‘Nation First’ should not be limited to political leaders, soldiers, or civil servants but must be the guiding philosophy for teachers as well. Expressing concern over the misuse of social media, he noted that a lack of national devotion among youth creates space for anti-national ideologies.

‘Hence, teachers bear the responsibility of not only educating but also sowing seeds of patriotism and ethics in their students,’ he added.

CM Yogi praised CMS for actively participating in national celebrations like Independence Day and Republic Day, stating that the enthusiasm shown by students in tableau performances reflects the enduring spirit of Dr Bharti Gandhi, whose dedication continues to inspire.

He also lauded the students’ theatrical presentation of Adi Yogi, calling such cultural expressions essential for connecting children with their history, traditions, and values. The performance, he said, reflects India’s cultural identity as the nation prepares for the grand celebration of the Mahakumbh.

‘Our mythological tales are not just entertainment,’ the Chief Minister said. ‘They are sources of life lessons and values. Such initiatives are crucial to connecting today's generation with their roots.’

The event was attended by CMS founder Dr Bharti Gandhi, CMS manager Prof. Geeta Gandhi, CMS President Dr Roger Kingdom, Treasurer Vinay Gandhi, former DGP Vikram Singh, and Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, among others.
