Dhenkanal (Odisha) [India], July 23 (HBTV): Five people died after a vehicle carrying a wedding party lost control and plunged into a pond near Indipur-Chhatia village under Dhenkanal Sadar Police Station limits, police said on Thursday.

According to Dhenkanal Police, two people were rescued alive from the vehicle, while five others trapped inside died due to drowning. The bodies have been sent to Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

The vehicle was travelling towards Indipur, where the wedding was being held, when it lost control during the night and plunged into a nearby pond.

The deceased have been identified as Ram Sahu (25), Abinash Sahu (26), Rakesh Kumar Sahu (25), Chandrakanta Swain (27), and Abhijit Sahu (25). One of the deceased was the groom’s maternal cousin.

Fire Services personnel, with the help of local villagers, recovered the submerged vehicle from the pond.
