New Delhi [India], August 28 (HBTV): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday announced that honey will be included under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana, extending the scheme’s benefits beyond horticulture crops.

The Chief Minister said that facilities for storage and quality testing of honey will be set up at the Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre, Ramnagar (Kurukshetra), and a Quality Control Laboratory worth INR 20 crore will be established soon. The Ramnagar institute will also be developed into a national-level centre for advanced research in beekeeping.

Addressing a state-level workshop on beekeeping in Kurukshetra, CM Saini said that beekeeping not only provides farmers with an additional source of income but also enhances crop productivity. He announced that the country’s first Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre is being set up in Ramnagar with Israeli cooperation, with the goal of producing 15,500 metric tonnes of honey by 2030.

A Honey Trade Centre is already functioning at the site, through which 74,000 boxes and 3,43,000 comb sheets have been distributed. The facility also provides honey processing and bottling services. Under the state’s Beekeeping Policy – 2021, a target has been set to train 7,750 beekeepers by 2030, with subsidies of up to 85 per cent on bee boxes, colonies and equipment.

Saini said that horticulture has become a key pillar of agricultural diversification in Haryana, with acreage increasing from 1.17 lakh acres in 2014 to 2.60 lakh acres at present. He encouraged youth and women to adopt beekeeping as a startup opportunity, launch honey brands and market their products globally through online platforms, assuring full government support in finance and technical guidance.

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, consistent efforts are being made to increase farmers’ income through allied sectors like dairy, animal husbandry, fisheries and beekeeping. He said that no country can progress without a strong agriculture sector backed by science and security.
