Manipur: Assam Rifles recovers narcotics worth INR 55 lakhs from Senapati district; one held

Assam Rifles, in coordination with Manipur Police, apprehended one individual and recovered WY (World is Yours) tablets weighing 2.202 kilograms worth approximately INR 55.20 lakhs in Senapati.

Senapati (Manipur) [India], August 28 (HBTV): Assam Rifles, in coordination with Manipur Police, apprehended one individual and recovered WY (World is Yours) tablets weighing 2.202 kilograms worth approximately INR 55.20 lakhs in Senapati district, officials said on Wednesday.

The recovery was made during a search operation at Mao Gate in Senapati. According to an official release, the successful operation underscores the commitment of Assam Rifles to combating the drug menace and ensuring peace and security in the region.

On the same day, in a separate joint operation, Assam Rifles recovered opium worth INR 1.25 lakhs from Shitlangpui village in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district. Two individuals were apprehended during the operation, which was based on specific intelligence inputs. The Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) said that a search conducted in a house led to the recovery of 247.65 grams of opium, and the individuals along with the contraband were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department, Lawngtlai.

Earlier, between August 18 and 23, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations under Spear Corps, in close coordination with Manipur Police, carried out intelligence-driven operations across Jiribam, Pherzawl, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Imphal West and Imphal East districts. These operations led to the apprehension of eight cadres from hill- and valley-based groups and the seizure of weapons, grenades, ammunition and other warlike stores.

On August 20, Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos apprehended three cadres of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army in Kshetrileikai, Thoubal district. On the same day, joint teams of the Indian Army, CRPF, local police and commandos conducted a search operation near Sunusiphai Paton, close to Loktak Lake, which resulted in the recovery of arms, ammunition, bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets and other stores.
