Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 23 (HBTV): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman and Secretary Dr V Narayanan met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence and discussed a range of strategic matters, including the potential application of remote sensing technologies in the state’s development.

During the meeting, Dr Narayanan briefed the Chief Minister on recent progress and achievements in the field of remote sensing. He highlighted key advancements in weather forecasting, monitoring of forest and green cover, groundwater profiling, mapping, and climate change analysis.

Expressing concern over the frequent loss of lives due to lightning strikes in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath proposed the development of a dedicated satellite for Uttar Pradesh. According to an official release, he suggested that such a satellite could be equipped to provide timely alerts specifically related to lightning activity.

The Chief Minister noted that, on average, nearly 300 people die each year in the state due to lightning strikes. He emphasised that advanced satellite technology could play a vital role in reducing disaster-related fatalities.

In response, ISRO Chairman Dr Narayanan assured the Chief Minister that the proposal would be taken up with due seriousness and that steps would be initiated to explore a viable and timely solution.
