New Delhi [India], July 16 (HBTV): A life convict out on bail in a murder case has been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with a rape case registered the previous month at Patel Nagar police station, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Manjeet alias Manja (39), is a resident of Patel Nagar, Bahadurgarh, in Haryana.
According to police, a complaint was received on June 11 at Patel Nagar Police Station, in which the complainant alleged sexual offences by Manjeet.
Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 64(2), 127(3), 123, 308(2), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was launched.
The accused had been evading arrest and was uncooperative during the investigation. However, with the help of technical surveillance and field intelligence, police located and arrested him on July 3.
Police revealed that Manjeet was earlier convicted in a 2009 murder case in Haryana, where he and his associate, Arun Dabas alias Bittu, had killed another criminal. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012 but was granted bail by the Chandigarh High Court in 2015.
Despite the conviction, Manjeet continued to engage in criminal activities and has been found involved in multiple cases in Haryana, including those related to murder, attempted murder, and the Arms Act.
Further investigation is underway to recover evidence and examine his involvement in other pending cases.
