Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 16 (HBTV): The heavy rains during the monsoon season have impacted life and property across Himachal Pradesh, claiming 106 lives between June 20 and July 15, 2025, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
Of the total fatalities, 62 deaths were directly attributed to rain-related calamities such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, electrocution, and falls. The remaining 44 deaths occurred in road accidents during the same period.
The SDMA’s cumulative damage report states that of the 62 rain-related deaths, 15 were caused by cloudbursts, 12 by falls from heights (trees or rocks), 11 by drowning, 8 in flash floods, 5 each due to electrocution and snake bites, and 1 each in landslides and fire-related incidents.
Among the 44 road accident deaths reported across the state, the districts of Mandi (4), Kullu (7), and Kinnaur (5) were among the worst affected.
In addition to the loss of human lives, the report highlights extensive damage to property and infrastructure. More than 293 pucca and 91 kaccha houses were fully damaged. Nearly 850 hectares of agricultural land were affected, and public property losses are estimated at over INR 81 crore, including damage to roads, water supply systems, power infrastructure, and health and education buildings.
The SDMA and district authorities have been engaged in ongoing rescue and relief operations. Emergency services, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local administration teams have been actively responding to multiple incidents across the state.
The disaster management authorities have appealed to the public to remain alert and follow safety advisories as heavy rainfall continues in various regions.
