Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has accused Punjab of indulging in petty politics over the water distribution issue.

New Delhi [India], May 21 (HBTV): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has accused Punjab of indulging in petty politics over the water distribution issue.

Speaking to mediapersons after presiding over a Cabinet meeting on Monday, Chief Minister Saini said the Haryana Cabinet strongly condemns the resolution passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. He recalled that prior to 1966, Punjab and Haryana were part of one state.

‘Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, should stop playing such petty politics and focus on developmental politics that addresses the basic needs of the people of Punjab,’ Saini said.

‘Water is a natural resource and a national heritage. Even today, the Mann government passed a resolution in its Vidhan Sabha, refusing to give Haryana its rightful share of drinking water. This act is unethical and goes against the federal structure of India,’ he added.

The Chief Minister lashed out at the AAP-led Punjab government, saying that just as the people of Punjab had voted out the Congress, they would do the same with the AAP.

Responding to a question on the resolution passed by the Punjab Vidhan Sabha regarding the dissolution of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Saini stated that BBMB is an autonomous body constituted by the Lok Sabha and operates under the central government.

He criticised the Punjab government for allegedly not respecting the decisions of the Supreme Court, not upholding the Constitution, and for undermining the federal structure of the country.

‘The nation runs on a system that must be respected,’ Saini said.
