New Delhi, February 18 (HBTV): India’s cheetah conservation efforts received a major boost on Wednesday as three new cubs were born at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced that South African cheetah Gamini gave birth to the cubs, marking her second litter in India.
The announcement coincides with the third anniversary of the arrival of South African cheetahs under Project Cheetah.
In a post on X, the minister described the development as a “roaring new chapter” in India’s conservation journey.
With this being the ninth successful cheetah litter born in India, the number of surviving Indian-born cubs has risen to 27. The country’s total cheetah population now stands at 38.
Calling the milestone a powerful symbol of India’s determined conservation effort, Yadav credited the field staff and veterinary teams for their sustained, round-the-clock work in nurturing the project.
