Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 25 (HBTV): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended a mass wedding ceremony held in Gorakhpur under the CM Mass Marriage Scheme, where he distributed gifts to 1,200 newly-wedded couples who were beneficiaries of the scheme.
Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said he could not attend individual weddings but made it a point to leave all his responsibilities in Lucknow to personally bless the brides at this mass event.
He highlighted that such weddings promote social equality by avoiding dowry and child marriage, and have no restrictions based on caste, region, or religion. Promoting the CM Mass Marriage Scheme, he stated: ‘As per their rituals, wherever ten or more couples register their marriages, the administration is ready to support the mass wedding ceremonies.’
Recalling the situation before 2017, he said only INR 20,000 was offered as support for the marriages of SC/ST women, and the amount was often delayed or never received. He added: ‘Today, the bride gets INR 60,000 in her bank account, along with clothes and jewellery for the couple.’
CM Yogi said the scheme, launched in 2017, initially offered INR 35,000, which was later raised to INR 51,000, and has now been increased to INR 1 lakh since April.
‘A good government ensures development, welfare of the poor, public prosperity, and improved security. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have witnessed change. Government schemes have uplifted 25 crore people nationwide from poverty, including 6 crore in Uttar Pradesh,’ he said.
Referring to the PM Swamitva Yojana, CM Yogi remarked that earlier, if someone's house was broken down, local goons would prevent reconstruction. ‘Now, under the Swamitva Yojana, the government ensures that people get the right to their homes. In Uttar Pradesh alone, 1.06 crore people have benefitted from the scheme,’ he said.
Adityanath described the CM Mass Marriage Scheme as a symbol of progressive thinking. He congratulated the newlywed couples and called on the public to stand against social backwardness.
