Agartala (Tripura), November 27 (HBTV): A major drug racket operating from a tea shop has been busted in Agartala City’s Golap Bagan area. A police operation resulted in the arrest of five individuals, including the alleged mastermind, a woman named Uma Malakar.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from the East Agartala Police Station raided the area on Tuesday, arresting four youths: Rajesh Debnath, Biswajit Majumdar, Joydeb Das, and Osman Mia. The police seized 36 grams of brown sugar from the suspects, who later disclosed during interrogation that they had obtained the drugs from a woman running a tea shop, SDPO Sadar DP Ray told Hornbill TV.

A raid on the tea shop led to the arrest of Uma Malakar, along with the recovery of 95 boxes of brown sugar and INR 16,000 in cash. Police also confiscated three mobile phones, a motorcycle, and other items from her.

'Uma Malakar was the key supplier of brown sugar in the area, distributing the narcotic to several young men who sold it across Agartala city at inflated prices,' said the police officer.

Some individuals involved in the racket managed to flee during the operation.
