Chandel (Manipur) [India], May 15 (HBTV): At least ten militants were killed in a gunfight with an Assam Rifles unit in Manipur's Chandel district on Wednesday, according to the Indian Army's Eastern Command. The operation remains ongoing at press time.

The Eastern Command, in a post on X, stated that acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of armed cadres near New Samtal village in Khengjoy Tehsil, Chandel district, close to the Indo-Myanmar border, an Assam Rifles unit under the Spear Corps launched a targeted operation on May 14, 2025.

The post noted that during the operation, troops came under fire from suspected militant cadres. The soldiers swiftly responded, redeployed, and retaliated in what the Army described as a 'calibrated and measured manner'. In the ensuing firefight, ten militants were neutralised, and a considerable quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered.

The Army confirmed that the operation is still in progress and further details are awaited.
