Mizoram police seize illicit liquor, drugs worth INR six crore ahead of LS polls

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Mizoram police conducted a massive operation against illicit liquor and drugs across the state and seized drugs, and illicit liquor worth more than INR six crore.

Aizwal, Mizoram, April 11 (HBTV): Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Mizoram police conducted a massive operation against illicit liquor and drugs across the state and seized drugs, and illicit liquor worth more than INR six crore. The police also arrested 94 persons in this connection.        



The CPRO of Mizoram police, Neihchungnunga, gave updates about locally made liquor, illicit liquor, and drugs being smuggled into Mizoram from outside since the announcement of Lok Sabha election on March 16, 2024. It indicates a high demand for liquor and drugs in the state.                



More than  4,773 liters of locally made liquor worth approximately INR 23,28,000; approximately 2,577 liters of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor worth approximately INR 41,23,200; approximately 66 liters of BEDC worth INR 49,500; 636 cans of beer worth approximately INR 3,18,000 in the local market were seized.  



Further, approximately 13,340 liters of fermented rice worth approximately INR 46,69,000 were destroyed during the period from March 16, 2024 to April 8, 2024, updates said.         



Fifty one cases have been registered at police stations and 61 persons have been arrested, Neihchungnunga said.            



Further, the CPRO said 5.513 kg of heroin worth INR 1,65,39,000; 26.469 kg of Methamphetamine worth INR 3,44,09,700; and 23.085 kg of Ganja worth INR 1,15,425 were also seized during the same period. 25 cases were registered at police stations and 33 persons were arrested in these cases, the police said.
