Chumoukedima (Nagaland) [India], April 9 (HBTV): The Nagaland Police has said no case of impersonation of Indian Reserve (IR) police personnel has been found in Mokokchung’s Koridang Assembly constituency, which is voting at the time of filing this report.

The National People’s Party (NPP) had on April 8 issued a statement addressed to the Election Commission and Nagaland Police authorities expressing concern that antisocial elements could be impersonating IR and police personnel in Chungtia, Longkhum, and Mangmetong areas of Koridang.

In response on April 8, the Mokokchung Police, in a statement to the district election authorities, said that police force commanders deployed in the said village areas were directed to verify all personnel stationed there.

The commanders were instructed to verify the identity and deployment details of the police personnel, the statement said.

‘Upon verification, no case of impersonation was detected among the personnel deployed. Further, sector commanders were instructed to gather intelligence from various sources regarding such impersonation by suspected civilians. No such inputs or reports have been received,’ the police said.

The police added that regular patrolling and surveillance were carried out in peripheral and vulnerable areas, but no cases of impersonation were found.

The statement further said that the police consulted village councils of Chungtia, Longkhum, and Mangmetong in this regard, and none reported any such cases in their jurisdictions.

To verify the matter, election and district authorities, along with the police, also visited the areas in question. However, no complaints regarding impersonation of police personnel were received from individuals or village councils, the police said.
