Nongpoh, Meghalaya, March 27 (HBTV): Villagers of Mawpdeng located near the Assam-Meghalaya border under Umsiang OP of Ri-Bhoi district apprehended two persons on March 25. They were understood to have been found with two country-made guns, and dried elephant meat.



The two individuals were identified as one Qurenius Muktieh, 27, of Korhadem village and a Jethril Umbah, 32 of Pamlatar, both from Ri Bhoi district.



The two were sent for medical examination.  



The weapons and meat have been seized for FSL examination. Forest officials under Sonapur Range under Kamrup East Division, Basistha, Guwahati have informed that two elephant deaths were reported since November 2024. These persons are suspected to be involved in poaching.
