Silchar, Assam, April 16 (HBTV): Cachar police in Assam launched an operation on Tuesday night and arrested seven persons who allegedly pelted stones and disrupted law and order while protesting against Waqf Amendment Act on Sunday, April 13.   



Briefing the media, Cachar’s superintendent of police, Numal Mahatta, said that at about 09:30 AM on Sunday, about 300 persons  assembled at Berenga village under Silchar Police Station and began a march towards Silchar town to protest against Waqf Act.  



The Silchar police and paramilitary forces arrived at the spot to stop the mob from proceeding and resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd. The mob was dispersed.  



The previous night, the authorities conducted an operation in Bagadahar and Kashipur area under Silchar Police station during which seven persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident. They have been duly arrested and forwarded to judicial custody.
