Washington DC [US], June 8 (HBTV): An all-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and briefed him on the recent Pahalgam terror attack and India's counter-terror operation, Operation Sindoor. The details were shared by the Embassy of India in the United States in an official statement.
According to the statement, the delegation highlighted India’s concerns regarding cross-border terrorism and reiterated the country’s determination to counter terrorism in all its forms. The Deputy Secretary reaffirmed the United States’ strong support for India’s fight against terrorism.
The two sides also held wide-ranging discussions on strengthening bilateral relations through deeper cooperation in mutually important areas.
On Friday, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also engaged with members of the American press corps and later attended a dinner hosted by the Ambassador of India. The delegation also met US Senator Chris Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, posted on X: ‘Delighted to meet so many old friends and supporters of India-US partnership at Ambassador’s dinner.’
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who was part of the delegation, shared details of the meeting with Senator Chris Van Hollen on X: ‘Had a productive meeting with Senator @ChrisVanHollen, where we discussed the tragic Pahalgam attack and India’s Operation Sindoor. The Senator expressed deep sympathy for India and reaffirmed that the U.S. stands firmly with India in the fight against terrorism.’
The delegation includes MPs from various parties: Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejasvi Surya, and Bhubaneswar Kalita (all from the BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), former ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora.
This diplomatic engagement is part of India’s broader global outreach following Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam by Pakistan-sponsored militants. The attack claimed 26 lives and injured several others.
In the weeks following the attack, Indian Armed Forces conducted targeted strikes on terror infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. These strikes reportedly eliminated over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
