Trump confirmed that the US has reached a ‘deal’ with China following high-level trade negotiations held in London.

Washington DC [US], June 12 (HBTV): US President Donald Trump on Wednesday confirmed that the United States has reached a ‘deal’ with China following high-level trade negotiations held in London, stating that the agreement now awaits final approval by him and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump made the announcement on the social media platform Truth Social, noting that China would supply essential rare earth minerals, while the US would allow Chinese students to continue pursuing education at American institutions.

‘Our deal with China is done, subject to final approval with President Xi and me. Full magnets, and any necessary rare earths, will be supplied, up front, by China. Likewise, we will provide to China what was agreed to, including Chinese students using our colleges and universities (which has always been good with me!). We are getting a total of 55% tariffs, China is getting 10%. Relationship is excellent! Thank you for your attention to this matter!’ Trump wrote.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the US and China had agreed on a ‘framework’ for trade after two days of discussions in London aimed at de-escalating bilateral tensions. While the specific details of the framework remain unclear, the breakthrough follows a previously announced 90-day pause on most tariffs after talks in Geneva last month.

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that both sides would proceed with the framework pending its approval by President Trump and President Xi Jinping, who held a 90-minute phone call last week to discuss trade matters.

Chinese Vice Commerce Minister Li Chenggang described the London negotiations as ‘professional, rational, in-depth and candid’. He added, ‘The two sides will bring back and report to our respective leaders the talks in the meeting as well as the framework that was reached in principle. We hope that the progress we made in this London meeting is conducive to increasing trust between China and the United States.’

This development comes shortly after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in a post on X that the United States would begin revoking visas of Chinese students, particularly those affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party or enrolled in critical fields.

Trump’s recent remarks, ‘We will provide to China what was agreed to, including Chinese students using our colleges and universities’, mark a significant shift in the trajectory of US-China relations.
