Dimapur [Nagaland], June 11 (HornbillTV): The Abattoir or slaughterhouse under the Dimapur municipal council located at Burma camp, Dimapur has been non functional and on shut down for over two years. The DMC modern Abbatoir was a project funded under the ministry of food processsing and was inaugurated in 2012. Live stock and meat are suppose to be go through inspection of ante mortem and post mortem at the slaughter house. However with the facility shut down, hygenic and proper meat cannot be supplied to the public. With African swine fever cases detected in Nagaland, shutting of the slughter house pose as a risk to the citizens of Nagaland who consume meat. An official further informed HornbillTV that the facility shut down due to high management cost.
