An apparently supernatural event of a sacramental food turning into blood was reported from a Catholic church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Chekiye village.

Chumoukedima, Nagaland, March 26 (HBTV): History has always been shrouded in legends, fables, mysteries, and all types of phenomenon both explained and those still unexplained. The intersection of religion and spirituality on one hand and science and rationality on the other is often a place of curiosity, wonderment, and debate.

One such event at a village, Chekiye, in Chumoukedima district in Nagaland is stirring up similar sentiments.

An apparently supernatural event at a Catholic church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Chekiye village, was reported on Tuesday. The phenomenon that is currently being investigated is that of a piece of holy sacramental bread reportedly not disintegrating or melting even after its expected expiration period.

Later, it reportedly produced blood. The incident is being investigated by the church’s authorities to see if it qualifies as a miracle in the Catholic Church’s ecclesiastical traditions.

According to updates, Catholics have procedures which they are supposed to follow to qualify a positive phenomenon as a miracle.

A follower of the Catholic faith has to take the sacrament of confirmation after Baptism. Baptism is the Christian religious rite of sprinkling water on to a person's forehead or of immersing them in water, symbolizing purification or regeneration and admission to the Christian Church.

A Catholic is thereafter allowed to take the Holy Communion every Sunday.

The Holy Communion is the act of consuming small pieces of bread or crackers and portions of wine representing what Jesus Christ did for people. So, at church, followers consume bread or crackers to remind that Christ’s body was broken for humanity and drink juice to symbolize the Savior’s blood paid for humankind’s sins.

A non-Catholic is not permitted to take the communion although they are allowed to attend the Holy Mass.

According to updates, a non-Catholic lady attended the Holy Mass about two months ago at Mount Carmel Church with her Catholic friend.

The unidentified lady, who reportedly did not know the rules that non-Catholics are not to have the sacramental bread, reportedly took it and kept it at home.

The next morning, the updates said, she returned and apologized to the priest besides returning the bread.

The priest put the bread in a container that had water and forgot about it.

However, the priest returned to it after about two months and found that it had not melted. Instead, it had turned into what appeared to be blood.

Updates said that the church’s authorities are investigating the phenomenon.
