Washington [US], July 1 (HBTV): Fashion’s fiercest editor is officially back, and she’s not alone. Production has begun on The Devil Wears Prada 2, with Oscar-winner Meryl Streep returning as the iconic Miranda Priestly.

Joining her are Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, all reprising their roles from the 2006 hit. The sequel, under Disney's 20th Century Studios, is set for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026.

The film, still cloaked in secrecy, introduces Kenneth Branagh as Miranda Priestly’s husband—a fresh character who adds new intrigue to the story, according to Variety.

The studio confirmed the production launch with an Instagram post captioned, 'The Devil Wears Prada 2. Now in production.'

The original 2006 film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, followed aspiring journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) as she navigated the ruthless world of high fashion under Priestly’s command.

Nearly two decades later, the sequel reportedly centres on Miranda grappling with a new challenge: the decline of the print magazine empire she once ruled. Emily Blunt’s character, Emily Charlton, has climbed the professional ladder and now holds a top position at a luxury conglomerate. Miranda, facing reduced advertising revenue, must now seek support from Charlton's company.

In the high-stakes world of modern publishing, shifting power dynamics and tested alliances promise drama and transformation.

Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, last seen walking away from Runway, remains an open narrative thread. According to Variety, her character is now established in traditional journalism, possibly adding another perspective to the evolving media landscape depicted in the film.

Original director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna are returning, along with producer Karen Rosenfelt, who was also part of the original production.
