Ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s meeting with leaders of 8 political parties of Jammu and Kashmir, sources have said PDP chief and former CM Mehbooba Mufti is mulling skipping the talks.

Mehbooba Mufti had earlier confirmed that she had received a call from the Centre for taking part in the meeting in Delhi on June 24. Fourteen leaders of 8 political parties have been invited to the meeting that will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the future course for the union territory.

Sources have said a final call on Mehbooba Mufti’s attendance will be taken after discussions with her party colleagues.

Sources said Mehbooba Mufti is likely to nominate former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference to represent the seven-party conglomerate in the meeting with PM Modi.

Mehbooba Mufti, who was the last chief minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, had an alliance government with the BJP from 2016 to 2018. She had said that the decision of participating in the talks would be taken by the party.

The National Conference, PDP and the Congress on Saturday said they will take a call on attending a meeting with the prime minister in Delhi after deliberations within their respective parties.

The BJP and the Altaf Bukhari-led Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party have confirmed their participation in the meeting, while five -- NC, PDP, Congress, Peoples Conference and CPI(M) -- will take a call after intra-party deliberations.
